Yes. Some cars and trucks come off the ramp like it's their right of way
-
A) prime did or didn't slow down to let the truck merge? Gee, idk big truck is merging on with me. Let me slow down first so he can merge. Oh ok he's not merging fast enough so let me speed back up. (Mashes throttle)
B) 4 wheelers notice two trucks about to collide so let's all surround the trucks as quickly as possible and slow down to both the trucks speeds so they can't make a decision to safely avoid a collision if needed.
C) truck merging notices it's a prime truck and decides oh hey look its a mega fleet driver and surely hes governed so ill hammer down and make a way. And/or he's just one of those knuckle heads who merges into your lane regardless if you have space to accommodate or not.
D) Doesn't matter what speed prime maintained or slowed down and sped up too or what the 4 wheelers done. It obviously falls on the truck merging as the law is worded, but who knows they've probably changed that wording since I took my driving test. So don't hold me accountable.tinytim Thanks this. -
By the letter of the law the merging truck should have yielded and merged onto the freeway safely. We all know there is always exceptions, and common courtesy and sense should have prevailed. The Prime driver could have done a better job anticipating the truck would be merging when it did, and realize he was not able to move over, knows he is limited on how fast a Prime truck can go, and slowed down and let him in.

Should of kept the hammer down...

Ok, I figured this would get a rift of responses, and quite frankly, this is really bothering me. Let an old man tell you how it "was". Years ago, we cared about each other. Truckers were a team, ALL truckers. It was "us" ( truckers) vs. "them"( 4 wheelers) We would do whatever it took, including putting some obstinate 4 wheeler into the orange barrels if it meant helping another driver get in the flow. We'd see them coming down the ramp, grab the radio, "bring 'er in, driver, I'll back out of it", and you'd talk for 75 miles. This behavior is exactly why I refuse to drive a truck anymore, because now, not only do you have to put up with 4 wheelers, you have these kinds of truck drivers today. For shame. Piss poor.

If I can sit here and type talking with you out there there is a workaround to being able to slow down a bit and let someone out of the merge ramp. God knows Ive done that quite a bit on the 695/95 interchange where it's 5 lanes of traffic that wont stop for no one and two to three lanes of truckers playing bump along until someone really wrecks and closes the whole thing for half a day plastered all over the local TV media for public consumption on the stupid truckers.
You tell me. We should remember what we have left behind over the years and get back into the saddle for one another. Now this little statement is probably going to cause some of you to bite back at me and tell me off because I have not necessarily been too accomodating in the past. There is a reason for that....
You young ones need to learn carefully and take the few moments to show courtesy and slow up a bit talk to one another, you are the future of us. Us oldsters are not always going to be around longer to teach you what we can teach you what it once was.
I'll take the for shame, piss poor dunce hat and go off into the corner when someone with twice my experience says so as does here. And here I am a 30 year driver being taught something by a Daddy who knows better. Long before I was even here on this planet in this life.
It might become necessary for all truckers to finally be replaced by Computer Ottos who will simply slow down and all the computer cars to be regulated also. Eventually 10 or more years into the future. You, you and you and yes you way in the back.. wont be in charge of a #### thing going down the road because all of it is taken away from you because you refused to do things right today. -
I put both. Prime shouldn't have slowed down. If you could have moved left safely do that, but don't slow down. You become a road hazard then. The merging truck should have slowed or ran the shoulder until clear to merger. So in my opinion the ticket lies with the merging truck, but both trucks contributed to the problem. NEVER slow to allow merging traffic on.

Wow, just wow.
The fault for the "collision" is the truck merging, it is their responbility to make sure they merge safely, not the traffic in the lane.
The prime driver's responsibility is to keep his truck in control and not to cause an accident from his actions, he did right.
The merging driver has the advantage here, he is working from his side, meaning he has a clear view and nothing in the way. The prime driver has the disadvantage because the other truck is merging on his blind side where he has limited visibility.
To me, the problem with the prime driver is that he posted the footage thinking he has to justify his actions, he doesn't.
This morning I drove into the city, dropped off one of my kids and the went to drop off a payment in the burbs. On the way back I am on a different freeway and as I am getting close to an exit on the left, I moved to the left lane, another reason is to pass a truck a quarter mile from me. That truck has two cars merging onto the freeway, one in front of him and the other a truck length behind him. All of a sudden he turned his left turn signal on and whipped, I mean whipped into the left lane like he was avoiding hitting a car. I thought he was going to lose control of the trailer. Instead he came close to hitting the car in the left lane that was at the back of his trailer and she reacted quickly enough to avoid an accident. So idiot driving the blue truck pulling the Cimarron trailer 92909somthing, learn how to make proper lane changes before you kill someone you idiot.Toothpick1 and Lepton1 Thank this. -
