If it were up to me I'd require real world testing on a real truck. Contrary to what a few people have said some of these megas do insist on using simulators for testing..... besides from what I've seen from companies like prime, swift, and CR England, I'd say their training programs are pathetic at best.

Some might, but I find it hard to believe the Missouri Highway Patrol has an Officer at Prime when they do testing for CDL's would allow it. Do you have proof other than some mega's?

I have never used a simulator, so I am not sure how close the pedal feel is to the real thing. I will most likely be finding out in the next few weeks. I do know after driving various trucks, no 2 trucks shift the same, nor are the clutches the same, close, but not the same.

Couldn't agree with you more. I've never used a simulator either I'll be interested to hear your report on how it is.

It isn't exactly like a real truck, it is simply a tool used to familiarize students with the concept of dbl clutching and gear patterns.

Missouri highway patrol officers are generally present at the testing pad. They don't look over every test however. They may overlook one person's pretrip, another driver's backing maneuvers and go along for road test with another. Some lucky folks will have them directly present for 2 phases, sometimes all the way through. They fo it to grade examiners to make sure they're following state guidelines. Ppl fail and have to retake parts of the testing all the time, some folks are sent home. They certainly don't just wave everyone through just for showing up.
