making the switch from flatbed to Reefer here soon, tarping for 8 years has messed with some prior back injuries.

Any tips for a Reefer newbie?

Getting on with Denney out of Denver for what it’s worth.

learn to sleep when you can. Be prepared to be treated like garbage. Most loads are dropped early in the AM. I know skateboard drivers are actually wanted when they deliver however reefer drivers are not wanted. the shippers dont want to load and the receivers dont want to unload.

There are a half dozen pretty good threads further down in this sub-group if you can find them. A lot depends on who you're working for and what makes up the bulk of their freight base. Do they do a lot of broker loads? Are they regional or 48 OTR? A lot of produce or little to no produce? A lot of fresh meats? Do they have drop trailers at the meat plants?

I’ve been talking with Denney Transport. They’re offering .52/mi with good miles. From what I’ve gathered from them/drivers it’s usually specialized meat out of Denver to all over, and typically produce back to Denver. Decent amount of LTL I believe.

My only advice, as stated before, sleep when you can. You will have no set schedule and it will constantly flip back and forth where one load picks up at 2pm, delivers at 2am, next load picks up at 8 am and delivers 10 pm. Oh, and if you don't already, find something to keep you entertained during loading and unloading....you will be awhile.

I used to do a lot of fresh meats at prior carrier, it wasn't bad in that we generally did drop/hook. The receiving hours at grocers will often be in the wee hours of the morning. This will require some very effective trip planning and may take some getting used to.

I'm at a reefer outfit too. All the miles you care to run. But I'm glad we don't don't do any produce except maybe a rare load here and there, and we don't deal with meat plants.

I was going to say don't roll to tight and inhale slow ...but I see this is actually about reefers. Kind of surprised me since it's always about reefer on here!!!
