    I’ve of course heard Werner’s reputation on their trailer conditions, but I’ve also heard that they improved a bit on their maintenance in the last ten years or so.

    What I’d like to ask those of you that pull these trailers daily and recently, what sort of shape are the oldest ones in as far as begging for violations? I have my fair share of experience with 10+ year old neglected trailers, and don’t expect something brand new, but I also don’t care for something that’s on the ragged edge of legal, compliant, and watertight. My searches have led to largely older information, and I have asked a former Werner driver I know, but he hasn’t driven for them in probably better than five years.

    The reason I ask is because I currently run flatbed, but am working with a possible customer that requires a van. I would like to minimize my expenditure until I know better how things are going to work out with the account, but I also don’t want to walk into a massive headache over a few thousand dollars, especially when the other trailers I’m looking at are air ride with air actuated slider pins.

    Anyways, I welcome and appreciate any input you can provide.

    I left 6 months ago, and most trailers were in good condition. Their trucks are also maintained fairly well.

    It should be pretty obvious which trailers are the maintained ones. The difference is HUGE. If you can see any Chrome at all, the trailer is one of the good new ones that was subject to proper maintenance.

    If they are new enough to have LED lights and tire inflation systems, they are new enough to be subject to Werner's updated maintenance program.

    Anything newer than 2010 should be in good condition, as thats when they started buying trailers to comply with CSA maintenance laws.

    As much as I hate Werner office employees, their maintenance of trucks and trailers is significantly better than most other companies I worked for. I am actually considering buying a Pete from them, as Im having trouble finding one that has the same options.

    Thanks for the reply. Everything they have listed now is ‘08-09. I keep telling myself it can’t be much worse than my ‘07 large fleet flatbed I currently have, but it’s hard to convince myself.

    If you want to post links to any advertisements, I can probably tell you more about the trailers and what kind of conditions they usually kept them in.

    The only thing to run away from is if the trailer has waves on the bottom rails.

    Their ads are just generic, they don’t have any specific trailer numbers or anything. Just says they have large quantities of them at various locations. If I do it I’ll probably get one from Springfield, OH and take a trip out there to pick one out.

    There are actually a few different types of trailers, I don't need any particular numbers, but I can tell you about the models and what kind of problems they tend to have. What to look for and what to avoid.

    I’m surprised Werner doesn’t have newer trailers for sale than 09s.Is it an indepedant dealer ? They used to sell outright through affiliate Highway Sales . There is a 2015 Wabash on this website for $23 k

    In the past month, I've gotten 3 trailers that have needed maintenance. 2 we're tires that was kind of one of them close to needing replaced but still legal... barely though. Both about 3/32 tread depth. Able to take them to a shop 10-15 mins down the road. Other was a bad brake shoe. Luckily I was shutting down for the night and the shipper allowed overnight parking. Sent in a maint request, went to sleep, wake up the next morning and see a service truck parked in front of me, mechanic was just finishing up as I woke up, honestly didn't expect anyone to come out until the morning. Perfect timing, my experience with them....I can't complain. Experiances may differ lol

    Sounds like you’re one of the good Drivers that takes the time to get it fixed.Its the ones that pass the buck in a fleet that cause problems.
