Yeah but then the Internet, smart phones, social media, liberal educators, and reality tv came along. They never saw that coming.

Look at what passes for role models today. Look at how even standards for the office of POTUS has been lowered the past 20 years.

Fancy Gap drives me crazy, and it usually ain't the 90 day mega drivers flying down it. Every time I go down it I can smell brakes at the loves exit. It starts at like a 3% grade and gets steeper, it's fairly long, and yeah they don't call em the smoky mountains for nothing.

I'd be terrified if I came up on a wreck going downhill there. I know I could stop, but some of these guys there's no way. I think people forget they could get brake checked on these grades, maybe 55 mph + ain't safe even if your engine brake can hold you. Come flying around a curve and "oh #$%&."

they were right and so are we lol ..... technology has ruined society as we once knew it just like the automobile ruined the horse and buggy society now we will just have to wait and see if the new technology society is better or worse I am sure the old time horse and buggy guys had their doubts about the automobile generation ...... but we can all hope that they will develop a decent sexbot in our lifetime

My friend had traveled Donner Pass in his automatic truck. He was belly aching about needing a manual. He went up in 7th with 45000 on his rear end. He smoked his brakes going down because he tried to do it in 9th. Then he blames it on not having a stick. I told it doesn't matter. He went down to fast for that amount of weight. Donner Pass isn't even that bad to me, but he should have turned the Jake on and went down the same speed as a previous posters said..

Monteagle used to have a sign at that check point before they made the sign of grade digital....about a mile down you can seen the weight recommendations

Monteagle and Fancy Gap are hills, not mountains(he says sarcastically). If you smoke your brakes on either, turn in your CDL and go to work at McD's before you kill someone. If you think they're a challenge, go out west and decend the long grades grossing 80k, you'll come back east and shake your head at the audacity of these states making it seem like these are so dangerous.

Especially when one younger driver inquired about my company.... he sounded interested until informed he would have to be out 3-4 weeks, run all of the lower 48. Then he lost interest, mumbling something about “work-life balance”.....gotta love the new coddled “I want 15$ to flip burgers” generation.
