I had a job once that started me at $0.42 with a promise of $0.44 after 60 days. I understood why it sounded too good to be true when I found I was getting about 1,500 miles a week.
$65k at $0.47 / mi is just over 138,000 miles per year. Divided by 46 weeks, just over 3000 miles a week. Seven days a week makes around 430 miles a day. You might average at the most, 57-58 mph in a 62 mph truck, which is about 7.5 hrs/day. It sounds doable.
But who the hell wants to drive a 62 mph truck? Unless they bumped up the speed recently, which in my experience doesn't make much difference unless you have flat, level roads and a few hills you can Georgia overdrive on, something I don't recommend, -
I don’t disagree with what you said overall about most of the industry, just always thought Crete was a little better. That being said, I just peeked at their website, and it says pay ranges from .49-.55 based on experience, etc https://cretecarrier.com/careers/company-drivers/pay-packages/ .
He probably is between .53-.55 then. I should also mention he volunteers to stay out 4-6 weeks at a time. I guess he loves the road. -
Well when you look at any place of work with a 100% turnover in many of the top companies, Its probably a good bet it isn't great. I was probably most happy being a owner operator, except it has its own set of problems and pit falls. Find a company that treats you like a human being is pretty tough, the trucking industry has steadily lost its ability to keep good drivers. I do think some tolerate the lifestyle better then others, but a bad company can indeed wear you down on top of what happens on the road.

They call truckers "throw away people." The megas love the welfare to work people because of the juicy tax breaks. The megas even do it to veterans for the same reason. Then run them off....rinse and repeat. They also love running them through their own trucking schools (another people mill). Rinse and repeat.

I set goals also....if in say a year or so...I am not where I want to be as far as salary and route...I would make changes. Sure it lead to me hopping a few companies but lead to where I am today. One will never find success in s mega carrier.Voodoo Pyg Thanks this.
