And you should sit down and think about what you wrote. A means you reset start at 0 on a new 70.

Right .... so how are you going to drive 81 hours in the next 8 days and NOT be in violation of the 70/8 limit?

I can burn my 70 up in 5.5 days, take 34 (which added to my duty time used equals 7 days) then run 11 driving again. When we say we're using our 70, we're not talking all of it as drive hours, some of us pull freight that requires more than just a brief "unload" notation.

Just to add to that ,I believe the rules say after 11 hrs driving you must take 10 hrs rest, so in theory you can drive 13 and 1/2 hrs in a day [24hrs] and actually drive 70 hrs in 6 days.
I wouldn't but it would be legal.

Well im not against doing a 34... But this week I got a nice long run. I had never done it before and dispatch says that everyone does a 34 before the back haul... I said ok no problem. Well I run hard, loaded at 2 locations, ran about 2300 miles in 3 days, and delivered at 2 locations on day 3. Then I started my 34.

Well about 24 hrs into my 34 I get my back haul dispatch, and discover that it would have been better to go directly from last drop to get loaded, then make first of 2 deliveries,THEN do a 34 while waiting for second reciever to open on Monday. Now I have to wait for the FIRST reciever to open on Monday... So I loose a whole additional day... Very frustrating. Next time I will make sure I have my back haul info before I make last delivery, and start 34.

So I justa sat down and figured it out... In 8 days... You can actually legally log 88 hrs... If you run your guts out. Burn your first 70 hour: 11 hr drive, 10 hr rest, repeat 6x, drive 4 hr, 34 hr reset. Fresh 70 hr: Drive 11 hr, 10 rest, drive 7 hr.... This equals 192 hours, or 8 days, with 88 hrs on line 3.

Edit: if you want to account for fueling and pre trip time it could be done and still have about 86 hrs on line 3.

That's why they had that asinine rule of only one 34 hour break in 7 days and it had to include two periods of time between 1AM and 5AM to qualify because there were drivers out there producing 82 hours in 8 days legally.
