We've had this problem with two trailers. Older units. They run fine, but when shut off they leak coolant. No leaking at all while running.

Had TK in Albuquerque check this one out .They couldn't find a leak. They replaced the cap but that didn't fix it.

Is this just a coincidence that both Thermo Kings do this? Is there something we are doing wrong?

Where does it leak from when shut off. Can you determine that? Is it making a puddle of coolant wherever you park it?

I can't see where it's coming from. It doesn't just start pouring out when I shut it down. It usually takes awhile. Then it covers the catwalk as I'm driving. It usually stops around the sensor but doesn't seem to be coming from there. Both units did this.

It’s probably one of the hoses. Depending on what Unit model you have, the hose locations can vary. Some are behind the firewall or inside the reefer. A service provider will need to literally take everything apart and it’s not a 1 day job.

My guess is a temperature related leak. When the unit is hot and everything is expanded from heat, there is no leak. When the unit cools, something is contracting enough to create a leak.

It might be a crack, but I suspect it is an old seal. I am completely unfamiliar with reefer unit construction, but the first thing I would check are o-ring seals if there are any.

Gets some UV Coolant leak detector fluid and then look with a UV light to find the leak. As FarmerBob said. It is leaking from a crack that opens up when the unit cools off.

    Farmerbob1 Thanks this.
