I will be fast asleep at a truckstop for five or so hours with the engine idling to keep it warm inside. Then comes the howl. Shrieking noise loud as my airhorn coming from the ac. When I turn the air off the noise stops.

I hate waking up like that, I am sure the other truckers around me hate it even more.

I turn the first dial to max ac in order to avoid taking in air from the outside, it just recirculates the inside air.

My other dial has a red and blue section indicating hot and cold. I turn the dial to the red side to make the temperature go up.

"Coming from the AC"? You mean as if coming through the dash or from under the hood as the compressor engages (Defroster on) and maybe the belt slips?

But I suspect the bearing on the blower motor shaft is going out or the fan is rubbing inside the fan cage due to being worn out or something broken or cracked inside the blower system.

I think somewhere you are hurting the truck. You have to have fresh air. You wont believe how bad air gets in that cab if you do not remove the gases you exhale through the night. It will make you wake up feeling poorly sometimes.

Remember a big truck cab will leak in gases all over from outside. It is NOT a true military term NBC sealed. Anything will get into to you inside that truck cab. You cannot keep it out.
