If you are running otr and you don't keep enough food in the truck so that you don't have to subsist on vending machines, it's your own fault. What would you do if you got stuck for a few days in a blizzard? Plenty of places that you can get a truck into to shop. And if you are stuck for a 34 in a truckstop with a local Walmart, that Walmart will deliver to you at the truckstop.

Walmart Delivers? Learn something new everyday; how does that work?

There’s also Uber Eats and DoorDash. If you’re on a 34, you can use the bus transportation if available. Many probably have an app nowadays where you can purchase day passes for cheap. Uber/Lyft can get expensive.

During my 2 hour off duty break, needed to complement my 8 hr break in the sleeper, I decided to cook a dinner and more than once during the 2 hours I turned the engine off and on...Now with the output file recording engine starts and shut offs I cannot hide it. Can it be effectively argued that I interrupted my break by turning the ignition key? I am serious asking this...Is starting the truck an event that should be logged as on duty?
During the holidays, I traveled to my truck to start it only to see if all was good...Should I have logged it as well?

    PE_T and scottied67 Thank this.

I got inspected once last January at Belleville KS and they’re not very kind most days. He made a comment to me about how often I start and stop my engine because when he printed the day he wanted it came out on 2 pages. I said I don’t like to let mine run unless I need to and when he starts buying my fuel I’ll let it run as long as he wants. He didn’t say anything else about it. And that was almost a year ago and that’s the last time I’ve had my logs looked at anywhere. Now when they see disc brakes all the way around and that I have an ELD they usually just gives the tires and lights a once over.

I hate to idle and most of the times I try not to. There are nights when temps get too cold and then I have no choice but start it. So by doing it, I am afraid that they can tell me that I interrupted my break and should have stayed for at least another 2 or 8 hours depending on the moment when the key was turned in the ignition.
    Nonsense but...

    PE_T Thanks this.

If they were to be that picky you could just say you closed your cab curtains. In effect by doing so, you have extended the sleeper to include all the space up front to the windshield; no one could reasonably assume you would be in preparation to drive since you cannot see out the windows.
