No one here wants to see a fellow driver lose all of his/her money and dreams. It can happen easy enough when business conditions are good, and the owner has experience that is both deep and broad.
The OP does not know his timing will put him at an extreme disadvantage, and that his foundational knowledge of the industry is incomplete at best.
It would be wrong for us to act as an echo chamber or cheerleader for his dreams, at this point. That is not being negative, it is watching out for someone 's well being.

ive said earlier I keep reading theses threads and people saying there’s no fright and cheap loads, but I’ve looked at the load boards and I’m seeing decent loads. But again I’m not a o/o so I don’t know how many cpm is needed to break even. It looks to me like if you put yourself to it there’s money to be made.

Look at the freight from the area that you are going to also... Look at the ratings of the company that is posting decent rates, road taxes, tolls, weather etc... I was going to MN whole winter one year. Noticed lots of rust on my equipment the following spring from all the salt.Coffey and Swine hauler Thank this.

Right there!!! “I’m not an O/O” is your problem. You should not give an opinion about anything that you don’t know .
I’m an o/o , 100% independent. I I don’t get pay $3.00 per mile I stay home , period.
And I think that is the problem here. Some people just write any stupidity , just because they are waiting for they leased company to find a load for them .Socool4real, Coffey, Swine hauler and 3 others Thank this. -
If he wants to buy a truck and lease to carrier then all this “waiting X years” is b.s. Anyone can get a truck and have money coming in in two weeks if they’re with a carrier that pays weekly. I just got a friend on where I’m running. He wanted to be a driver here but there weren’t any openings. So he bought a truck and timed it to come on when a new trailer was available.
The main thing I see with the initial post is they are wanting a truck for under $35k, and that could eat their lunch without a large reserve for maintenance. If they could save up a larger down payment and get a truck in the $60-70k range they may be better off but that is also a gamble.B Sims, Dino soar, bryan21384 and 3 others Thank this. -
What load boards are you looking at? What do you consider to be a "decent" load? How do you determine there's money to be made if you admittedly don't know the cost of operation?Dino soar, Coffey, Midwest Trucker and 2 others Thank this.

A company driver and owner operator don't really compete for the same freight.chimbotano Thanks this.
