Management of companies react in ways that are contrary to the realities of life and circumstance. The result is that they fulfill their own prophecy. This thread is a perfect illustration, companies complain that they can't find enough drivers. Then they go out and conduct themselves in a way that makes working conditions so bad no one wants to work for them, the result is a shortage of drivers. Word gets around through truck stops and forums like this one and soon people don't even apply anymore.

Some of it is pretty nice and I found I became a better driver. Other things like dashcams can protect drivers against investigators who have a predisposed bias against trucks. The problem is that a lot of this fails when a driver needs it most. Most of the front collision avoidance systems fail in bad weather, especially fog. That's when I want it most, I want something to warn me that someone ahead of me is doing something stupid before I can see them.

Court orders trucking company to remove driver-facing cameras
A Canadian judge has ordered Sysco to remove driver facing cameras citing that it is an invasion of privacy. The arguments that companies are making in defense are pretty weak, especially since they are being caught lying. Once this spreads to the U.S. courts it will be interesting to see how hard companies want to fight.Lonesome Thanks this. -
Wonder what kinda lobbying will be done by the insurance industry to fight this in the states?

I don't understand these companies. Driver facing cameras increase a companies exposure, if a driver is looking at one thing and misses another he and his company can be found at fault. You have lawyers looking for a payday and juries who wouldn't even know how to start a truck. Into this mix you are giving them evidence. Then you have these companies getting caught spying on their drivers even though they deny it. They are just setting themselves up for an eventual slapdown. Once the courts get involved, if it's ruled an unconstitutional invasion of privacy, any law, or regulation will have to follow court guidance.
Courts trump insurance lobbyists.smokey12 Thanks this. -
These are the companies I’ve worked for in my career in chronological order.
May Trucking
Melton Trucking
Roehl Trucking
Poly Trucking
Davis Express
May Trucking
My current small mom and pop local job.
Davis Express was by far the worst outfit I’ve worked for. Roehl was the second worst.
Honestly, May was the best “Mega” carrier. They really weren’t all that bad once you learned how to dodge their their shortcomings. Poly was cool too. I just got tired of breaking down all the time and having to deal with Curly, Moe and Larry in the shop.Last edited: Feb 22, 2020
