Merging must not be taught anymore in drivers ed...for the few that even take it. Whoever said that both parties are responsible for merging pbly thinks texting while driving is ok, too.

There might have been a few things you could have done to make it safer for everyone. Like as stated before, instead of changing lanes gradually slow down with merging traffic.
But for who's at fault, completely her. You can't feel responsible because other drivers don't pay attention to their merging lane until the last possible second. Same as you can't feel responsible because she figured her conversation was more important than her life. If she got freaked out simply because you put your signal on, she shouldn't have a license in the first place. -
Doesn't anyone else see the "Another" as rather an odd way of titling the thread.
If you are mainline traffic, I'd like to know where the "Yield" or "Merge" sign is for you to follow? Seriously. It's NOT there. So if traffic is that heavy, WHY are you making a risky maneuver changing lanes IN TRAFFIC, with triples no less. Even drastically slowing is a risky move. Maintain your speed and position and don't change anything. It's the safest move to make.
You need to take a step back and look at what it is you're doing if this is the 3rd or 4th near miss or whatever you want to call them.
It may seem bullheaded to not slow or change lanes. But they have to work around you, not the other way around. Doing otherwise, you are as erratic as they are and become just as much a danger to others because they THINK you are going to do one thing (maintain speed and lane), and you don't. -

Really?
This is HIS 4th incident this year. 2 scales run and hit a construction cone.
He changed lanes in heavy traffic and impeded traffic.
Yop.
TOTALLY got it all wrong.
Like I said. WHERE is the "Merge" or "Yield" sign for mainline traffic? There is NONE. Courtesy in heavy traffic is maintaining your speed and position. -

Courtesy or not it is one of the most dangerous things to do changing lanes for any reason even one so simple. Maybe try adjusting speed instead if you want to be courteous , the fact that traffic "piled" up behind you indicates you should have stayed put. Moreso with triples or doubles.
