It's a story that's been going around for years. And as mentioned above. We all know that heat is the most expensive utility. Hard to imagine profits outweighing the costs.
Another scam???

Did a quick google on hot fuel - found a lawsuit . . .
-
That would be something but fuel tanks are only 10-20 thousand gallons. And they have two or three tanks depending on the size of the facility. And they only have to raise the temperature 10-15 degrees.
-
It would take a ton of energy to consistently heat that much liquid for that long. I don't see how they would come out ahead making the risk worth it.
-
The trash bag manufacturer I use to work for had 2 8000 gallon tanks, and we only had 300 trucks that were spread out over 47 states. A busy truckstop will see 50-100 trucks an hour. If each of those trucks put in 125 gal, that would be 6200-12,500 gallons per hour. They have to have more capacity than that.

50-100 an hour? How? 3/4 of the lanes are for 30 minutes breaks and the other 1/4 is showers and lunch.Friday, Lonesome, milehunter43 and 3 others Thank this.

They wouldn't need to heat the fuel while in the tanks, they'd only need an in-line heater at each pump that heated only the fuel that was being dispensed at any given time. Sort of like the instant hot water heaters available today uses very little energy to heat and very reliable.
I would bet IF they do heat the fuel they also have a " scientific " legal reason to heat it per their Lawyers.
Besides the expansion of the diesel at such a small variance in temperature could physically alter my unbalanced fuel gauges to within an indescribable variance of my Flux capacitor.4mer trucker, BIGZILLA and PoleCrusher Thank this. -
Most Pilots have 3 or 4 20,000 gallon tanks, depending on the size of the facility. During peak fueling hours the busiest stations may have 2 or 3 fuel drops an hour, each drop 7,700 gallons.Home_on_wheels Thanks this.

Anyone stop to THINK, maybe IF they are heating the fuel, its to sell the quantity being paid for and not more?
Or do we just auto knee jerk big evil corporation out to steal from us all. Granted Pilot has been put on the carpet previously but usually jumping to assumptions leaves the jumper looking like a fool.gentleroger Thanks this. -
Pilot flying j typically has 3 10k gallon underground dieesl tanks...i know because i drove for flying j delivering fuel...and yes there's a way for them to heat that fuel...
