I'm in the Northwest, don't want to say my employer. Yeah, seems a bit underpay. He treats me right, its a small company and I'm worried if I go with a different outfit, I may get 48 cpm but not the miles.

Truck is governed 72. I drive about 700 miles a day from Idaho, Washington, or Oregon to Georgia or Florida. I get paid for every mile, starting from the yard. 1 cross country trip takes me 5-6 including dealing with the shippers/receivers. Once unloaded I usually run out my clock to the next shipper, then reset.

Is it worth the risk finding a new employer? I am working my ### off and he is making me do some risky ####.

You've touched on two issues - pay and what's going on with the CCP Flu.

As a young lady in another service industry keeps reminding me - kinky stuff's extra. If you're willing and able to do things other drivers won't or can't you'll get paid more. Haz-mat/team/Canada all pay more than what you're doing now. That said, K&B is starting reefer drivers w/6 months of experience at 50 cpm, a $500 signing bonus and a $1,250/wk guaranteed minimum (As of 4/13). No idea how many miles they're turning right now, but it would probably be worth your time to call their recruiter and ask.

The CCP Flu is real uneven. If you're hauling groceries, medical or TP you're probably turning more than 4,000 miles a week. If you haul food service (Sysco/McLane), energy, intermodal or clothes you're probably idle. In the middle are OTR drivers fighting for loads at <$1.00/mile and getting 1,000 miles/wk. because their employers are too cheap to lay them off!

Just did the math, got a pinch over 3550 (expected pay 3500) miles a week in the last 2 weeks.

Not sure if I want to leave this company, especially if the only option is working for a larger company. This is a small 2 man operation with roughly 30-40 trucks. I will head into the office and re-negotiate if I have to. I was just wondering what the going rate was for new drivers these days.

Seems like the industry pay still starts around .38 cpm with the mega carriers? Swift being at 40-42 cpm? Its hard to find the cpm for the megas and that's kind of what I was going by when i threw out 40 cpm number to him... hence, I dug my own grave. In 3 months I'll ask for a raise to 42 cpm. Then every 6 months ask for additional 1-2 cpm.

With that kind of mileage, to be honest that isn't bad. That means your taking home probably a steady 1000-1100 at minimum per week after taxes and such. The cpm may be low but your company makes up for it with huge miles. I'd work that job. Many companies pay more cpm but the miles ain't there, and some people get 2200-2300 miles per week. Where I am, I run usually between 2500-2700 per week. Lately, I've cracked 3000 a little more. I dont get last 3000 often. Last week, I did 3292 and and grossed 1500, but once that child support, insurance, and taxes hit, it took me down to 1200. I will take it!!!! Itll probably be a while before I see a check like that again.

What risks are you taking? You dont want to work for a company that will destroy your license

Risks that will be addressed very soon. And yes, it would impact my driving record and i can't have that.

Coast to coast and back, it’s very doable on long loads. I had loads going from Pharrell, TX to Canada and back empty. I did 3500 a week easy. But that was not a normal load of course
