Going with Stevens isn't having your foot in the door. Going with Stevens is having your foot step in a big pile of crap.

At least you already have your CDL and can walk away at any time.

Stevens is a training company, and they train well. The pay is definitely low, but once you put six months to a year in, without screwing up too badly, you can get a job at almost any company that hires drivers with only a little experience.

Nearly every person in Safety and Operations that a driver might talk to are experienced drivers. That's golden if you are the sort who will pick up the phone when you need help.

 

Forget Stevens.
You got tons of companies near you.
I remember a tanker company near there. They hired and trained new grads. They wouldn’t hire me cause of where I live.
You literally have a smorgasbord of companies near you! Start looking!

Here's one, but the qualifications are confusing. Says you need 2 years experience, then it says "Must hold or be able to acquire a Class A CDL (Commercial Driver License) with AIRBRAKE, Tanker Endorsement and Hazmat Endorsement within 90 days of employment."
