Dennis Tafoya, director of the LA County affirmative action office, issued a memo describing an “exhaustive search” for any computer equipment labeled “master” and “slave”. He also stated that all offending labels should be replaced with more appropriate terminology. Purchasing officials subsequently requested that all suppliers cease using labels deemed “unacceptable and offensive”—the first step of a creeping labeling ban. The county began their investigation after ONE worker saw a videotape machine bearing the labels and filed a discrimination complaint with the Office of Affirmative Action Compliance. However, “master” and “slave” are common terms for primary and secondary hard drives in the computer industry, and have been used without complaint for decades. Due to overwhelming negative publicity and a near revolt from suppliers, LA County’s Division Manager of Purchasing and Contract Services promised there would be no ban on computer equipment based on current labeling practices.

So should we replace the words "Master" and "Slave" with "Dom" and "Sub"?

I asked for an escort across a job site not too long ago and got given the gears about it. The appropriate term now is "Guide".Dharok, passingthru69, OLDSKOOLERnWV and 3 others Thank this. -
The whole world is going crazy. College students with their "Hate Alert" apps on their phones. Push the "Hate Alert" alarm and all the students that have the app. get a signal and rush to a safe room on campus.
A few months ago one of those goofy students in Indiana pushed the 'Hate Alert' button and texted that there's was KKK member on campus wearing his white robe and carrying a rope noose to lynch someone. The police stormed the campus and discovered the so-called KKK Klansman was a priest that works on the campus and the rope noose was his rosary beads. The student that caused the problem said, "Well, that's ok, we can't afford to take chances."Dharok, passingthru69, Snailexpress and 6 others Thank this. -
I swear people just look for things to offend them. These people think they're crusaders for human rights but they're so caught up in their own "Holier than Thou" bull#### that they can't see they're rapidly killing their own right to free speech. Like that college student who got all offended by another student's "Make America Great" ballcap. Is that not infringing upon that student's right to freedom of speech? Same with cancelling re-runs of the Dukes of Hazard. Sure The General had a Confederate flag on the roof. So what? The Dukes of Hazard was just about a couple of good ol' boys fighting corruption of the establishment (and jumping stuff in a kick ### Dodge Charger). It was probably the least racist show of that era. Yet we still see All In The Family on TV. How many racist overtones is there in that show?

I have not seen master and slave for IDE hardware in years. Today it is raid 0, 1, 5, 10, as today's hardware has SATA drives, not IDE, I doubt you will see it unless you have an ancient computer running windows 95.

I tried to replace the clutch slave cylinder on the wife's car a while back, but it got triggered and retreated to its safe space. Now I have court mandated sensitivity sessions and the car's still down.

Come to think of it I haven't heard that song "Master and Servant" from Depeche Mode in California for years.
