If I ever have the choice, I won't drive through the state again. Ever. Which is sad, because it's my second favorite state, after Alaska. But the local law enforcement can be corrupt: "Well, I have to do something..."

The rest of the story is somewhere in my posts...

I have to wonder at what points did the officer and driver measured the load at to come up with different widths.

True, surely a polite "Can we go check that measurement again?" could have solved the problem.

I had a load of crackers that the shipper used air bags between the pallets to secure them and pushed the sides of the trailer out some. They made me get a permit for that.

Maybe he measured corner to corner. Or more than likely he just lied.

No, it didn't do any good. When I asked him to show me where he measured, he ignored me and went inside. He had no interest in serving the public.

The customer, not you, is paying for the pilot car. If an official says it is needed, charge it to the customer. If the customer wants his money back, tell him to contact officer x at poe y and dispute the law and or enforcement. I doubt anything will change.
Under no circumstances am I going to raise my voice or harass a law enforcement official with a badge and a gun. That dispute is to be handled in court and no where else. You are asking to get arrested or much worse. All for what?
