Tell him to hide a pre paid credit card in the truck for emergencies. And maybe a little cash, separate from his wallet.

I used to not like this method, it has now become actually more secure than having a physical card.
    Digital wallet. With password protection.

I HIGHLY recommend you stop using a debit card. Get a good credit card. Capital One, Discover, Chase, etc... all are fine. Pick one that twangs your buds. Benefits include:

    - It's not tied to your bank account

    - Not responsible for fraudulent charges

    - Earn points (anywhere from 1% to 5% back) that you can apply toward the card balance (that's what I do with them)

The main thing is you have to be disciplined and pay off the balance every month in order to avoid high interest charges. In other words, treat it the same as you would a debit card and don't spend money you don't have.

Depending on his phone, all he needs are the16 digit number, the expiration date, security code on the back and zip code and add it to the Wallet app or ApplePay.

Regardless of the type of cards you have. Debit or credit card. Beware of scanners attached as shown in this video,

I also HIGHLY recommend keeping them inside an RFID-protected sleeve.

My son-in-law fell victim to a scanner at a place somewhere between Clarksville and Nashville several years ago. Think about how often you slide a card through or insert a chip card into a POS device daily.

While I am on the subject I also recommend developing muscle memory to NEVER let your wallet out of your hand. Stop putting so many things the wallet is hard to sit on. My wallet is either in my pants pocket or my hand. I never set it down on a counter. Most folks lose their wallets because they lay it down and forget about it. If I had a $ for everytime I have called out to somebody that did this I might have enough money to take my family out to a 4 star restaurant!

Once you get the new card, you will have to UPS overnite it to a truckstop on his route, where he can pick it up.

Debit cards are no more risky than a credit card. NEVER use the PIN# to complete any transactions with a debit card. ALWAYS select "credit" when given a choice between using it as a "debit or credit". You're always given that option so there's never a need to use it as a "debit".

When you use you card as "credit" you have full fraud protection backing you up which means if someone steals that number and empties your account you'll get reimbursed 100% by visa or whoever the issuer is.

Now if someone steals your PIN# and empties your account you are SOL. I see people in checkout lines opting to use them as debit all the time and it's a real head scratcher. Don't do it!

I've had my debit card compromised multiple times in the past 20 years or so for several thousands and was always made whole. Don't use em as "debit", never share your pin, and you won't ever get wiped out..

That happened to me before. When I could see that unauthorized purchases were made, I went to the ATM and snatched every penny that I could off the card. Then I canceled it. I had to get routed home a couple of weeks later to pick it up. It'll take like 10 days at the most to get it sent home.

Happened to me last May or so IIRC. Somehow someone got into my business account online, transferred 5k into my personal acct, then transferred it out of my acct into theirs.

Bank shut it down for fraud, and I didn't know about it. Went to get fuel 900 miles from home and card wouldn't work. I had no credit cards, and only about 100$ cash with me.

Unloaded the next morning and deadheaded home to fix it.

You don't have to do that. The credit card company will make you whole. Typically they'll spot the fraudulent transactions and call to verify those with you then cut the card off if you say no. Even if they don't but you find the transactions later same deal.
