Yes - I've always logged it how it was - 2 off duty, (shower/food) - get back in the truck, 7 hours sleeper, (sleep), then flick it to off duty again IF I remember when I wake up and get going.

34 the same. Park the SOAB - off duty, for at least 96 hours if I can :)

Say you came to e-town with a fresh clock, but there was some big delay. You wait for 8 hours in your sleeper before you're loaded. You could then drive to say, Mt. Vernon, and take a 2 hour break. Doing so would be as if you took a 10-hour break at e-town -- your clock would start the moment you got out of the sleeper.

The big difference is you can drive ~14 hours in a 24-hour period. Otherwise the 30 minute break cuts into your day...

Other big benefit is it allows you to take a break at a shipper, but still have a "productive" stop for along the road for showers/meals, etc

34 all off duty. Your free to do as you please.

Log it in sleeper amd you're asking for trouble.

Anytime I'm over 10. I log off duty. Haven't been hassled yet.

Why would you think that.. If I'm napping or sleeping in the sleeper I'm going to log it.. I haven't had any problems doing it this way.. I'm not at home.. where did I sleep.. it's no one's business but yours.. right ?

I log 20 hours in the sleeper, 4 hours off duty. If any smart arse DOT officer asks why 4 straight hours out of the truck, I quote the reg's..."multiple changes of duty status in one city or township can be logged as one". So all of my inside activities, such as as eating, showering etc. are logged as one group, and sleeper time another. I therefore have legally accounted for my time. I do 34's regularly...and have never had an issue.

This is the reason I'm saying to log it all off duty or split it up. (Op got into trouble for all off duty, but that's why I said to say you stayed in a hotel or something.)

It's a chicken #### violation but can happen. Couple posts down someone was dinged for logging it all as sleeper berth.

It's true that it isn't anybody's business, but I'm not going to change myself to on duty just to go take a piss.

Hate to sound like I'm just running scared, but it only takes one officer with something to prove and you've got a log violation ticket, points, and a hefty fine.

Yeah. Fair enough. I saw that thread in its infancy. It's still going and just as heated as the underground coal fire in Pennsylvania.

(For those of us who have no idea what I'm talking about... https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centralia_mine_fire)

Went back and read some of the newer replies...

I guess the smartest way to conclude this would be to sum it up as, "Follow the practices of logging listed in the FMCSA book. Anything extra you do, is on you."

The only thing more disagreeable than a room full of truckers is a chicken coop full of officers.

Realizing the current state of that thread if you don't mind I'll follow suit. I don't want to start anything.
