I agree with Road Runner on this one, as much as I get frustrated I don't think I could load a trailer all that well not really, not with all those cases coming off of the conveyor it's pretty fast paced.
road_runner Thanks this. -

Dock workers are actually the best newb driver candidates. They have a natural attention to detail and awesome focus (at least the good ones).
Drivers to dock not so much. Put me in a forklift and I will go forward, backwards, up, down until it sounds expensivearchangelic peon, Bob Dobalina and lcfd15 Thank this. -
I actually enjoyed running fork lifts, but I never would have wanted it to be a full time gig.

As far as driving a forklift is concerned, I like to say that I "specialize" in moving 40"X48", 4' high pallets. Preferably with one product on it, wrapped very well, and extremely stable.
I'd never cut it as an LTL dockworker. The good ones can perform surgery with a forklift.carl320, Mike2633, road_runner and 1 other person Thank this. -
Our guys can snag a 30 foot bundle of metal beans with one forklift tine, then move it around and manipulate the direction with great ease. Insane the type of skill they have.
EDIT: I see a bunch of people thanking me for the comment, so I assume some or most of you have seen something similar at your docks. Not for me.... I can back a trailer with con... i can even back a set for a short distance. What I see on the dock is past my CDL.Last edited: Sep 15, 2016
