Must stop at 2300, can start again at midnight, and if you drive non-stop, park at 0800. 1000, if you take another couple hours off duty. And then if you log 8hrs sleeper berth, the universe implodes.

Midnight is the end of day for that logbook, computer logs on the truck will tell you what hours you have remaining on the recap.
I have never had a computer log on the truck because I drove until around 2001 and we ran a paper logs. On the paper logs is a recap at the far end of the line chart. That recap going back 9 days or so will tell you what hours have ready for the new working day after midnight.
If you are careful and organize your recap you will always know how many hours you have left in your 70 hour work week or however many it is these days. We were a team and considered 140 hours for the both of us very valuable in not running out of drive time. There were times that we maxed out and had to sit a while (We did not have the 34 hour reset either in those days, your recap told you when you have a new 10 hour driving time (*11 now...) and 14 hours total onduty availible for the next day after midnight.
I hope this helps.
