Im still all over those semi trailers in that tornado It's awesome. I would love to hear the safety person listen to the story.... alleging flying trailers by people who he or she is considering sending to drug testing.

The day of those storms I was in Waco getting loaded at Mars.

One of them landed on top of a house about a 1/4 mile behind Schneiders property. Another one ended up across I-20 in a field near the TA.
sandralee Thanks this. -

Your first few times through high winds will be scary. It was my least favorite weather condition as a newb. Like everything else tho, you will get used to it. Just use your head and slow down if you need to.Lepton1, sandralee and scottied67 Thank this.

North Dakota had a short lived public service campaign that was "yanked" shortly after it launched, due to out cry because of the double entendre: Don't Jerk and Drive.
The gist of the message is to resist the urge to "jerk" the steering wheel if your wheels encounter sudden deep snow. In a four wheeler that results in fishtailing or spinning out of control. In a big rig that results in a jackknife or potential rollover.
The same applies to driving in big broadside winds. Sure, you have to be dynamic with the steering wheel. But don't try to immediately correct to the center of your lane if you get pushed by the wind. Control your drift until you find a line you can maintain and then gradually ease it back to center. Keep to the upwind side of the lane to allow for sudden push from the wind.
Watch big rigs or other high profile vehicles ahead of you like a hawk. If you see someone get a sudden blast of wind ahead of you, because of wind funneling through a Gorge for example, set up for that spot by drifting farther to the windward side of the lane to allow more room to take on that blast of wind by riding it gently toward the downwind side.
I will have more thoughts on driving in big wind, but I have to TCB right now. I am based in OKC, running in a lot of high wind conditions. I have come to enjoy the challenge. -
I had just left Percieval Iowa headed north as you were filming that. It got very scary immediately after passing the rest area. I remember being ticked because I had just passed a safe area to park. Cars and trucks were parked on the shoulders. I ended up parking about where you're standing for a few minutes just as it was blowing through and winding down.sandralee and scottied67 Thank this.

Yeah, I heard they 'pulled' that off the air after some parents were 'stroked' the wrong way over the message.

Small world, that is very cool we crossed paths and didn't even know it.
