With the exception of a one hour nap i have been awake for 31 hours now on 4 hours of sleep and i was forced to stop my truck 4 hours ago after driving over 700 miles overnight. I'm still waiting for the "ok I'm shutting down now" part to come.
For me it won't come for 6-10 hours on average...
So here we are... -
Basically you guys are scared of change. I get it. People don't like change. But it's coming so you might as well do it now and get use to it and learn how to use it to your advantage.
I'm done debating this. It's coming no matter what we say. -
The part I can't believe is how willing some of these newer drivers, who don't understand how it used to be when we were thought of as "Knights of the Road," are to put up with what is essentially a loss of and an infringement on their freedom! It's not just in trucking either, although that's the subject of this conversation. What used to literally be the Land of the Free & the Home of the Brave is rapidly turning into something many of us older people hardly recognize any more. Freedoms are literally disappearing and some folks seem to think it's great. I realize I'm part of an older generation but these guys coming up seem to have no concept of what they're losing and have already lost --- particularly in trucking. I guess they won't miss something they never knew they had... Maybe these latest elections can slow or turn around some of what has been happening. I mean it's a wonder any of us lived this long without being told what to do and how and when to do it our entire lives. Life is not all about being absolutely safe or in compliance with someone else's rules that have never done the job you're trying to do. A famous quote is "A ship in port is safe, but that's not what ships are for." I think it applies to trucks and truckers --- particularly to long-haul truckers as well.
gokiddogo, ramblingman, loose_leafs and 6 others Thank this. -
Still wrong...
I'm 22 years old and have been driving OTR (North America) for a year and a half now. I've been with one company the whole time on E-logs only. I've never actually run paper logs outside of training.
I'm not afraid of change I need change to function in this industry. I need to change from E-logs to paper logs until the HOS are brought to reason. I think I've made it rather clear that the HOS are not safe for me to abide by and being held down to the second with E-logs is escalating it to dangerous levels.Joetro, tsavory and loose_leafs Thank this. -
so lack of common sense is the problem
who knew
no one is capable of doing anything without an app
hey kids did you know back when we walked to school both ways uphill thru snowdrifts
that cash registers just opened up and the cashier had to count change?Panhandle flash, ShortBusKid, Joetro and 2 others Thank this. -
People don't know their own limits = the government will FORCE you into a one size fits all situation. Great solution to a non-problem. This is not about "being scared of change". This is about the big carriers lobbying heavily for this to bring everyone down to the lowest common denominator. To lower their costs for compliance, and make sure every available second is accounted for and maximized. I have no issue with the concept of E-logs; I have a HUGE issue with being FORCED to use them. The needs and wants of a 3,000 unit carrier are worlds apart from a one truck carrier..........but we have the same rules? Dysfunctional government at it's best.cowboy_tech, pupeperson and Joetro Thank this.

How is having 3000 trucks different from 1? You both haul freight. You both drive the same roads, deal with the same traffic, same shippers and receivers.
So tell me what's the difference? Are you saying as a 1 truck operation you should be allowed to do whatever you want? -
I am saying keeping track of and on top of the paperwork requirements for one is far easier than thousands. And if paper is working, and the carrier is perfectly safe; why force change for the sake of change?MJ1657, EZX1100, ShortBusKid and 1 other person Thank this.

Because they know guys are running over the hours and fudging the books to make it look good.
