Yes, but they aren't the e-logs that everyone's talking about. They are essentially paper logs on a laptop. Semantics.

There's a real blurry line between what you describe, I'd call it time shifting a few hours, versus cheating in a fashion that enables you to drive 24/7.

Sort of like the blurry line between ELD keeping your drive line on the clock versus coercion of a driver to operate at times they would be more likely to fatigue, or less safely due to time pressure (speeding in construction zones for example).

Just like every other attempt to re-invent the HOS wheel, this one will have twice as many unintended consequences as expected benefits. And, cheaters will find a way to cheat no matter how they track their time.

I had a level 1 inspection during last month's revenue blitz (passed btw). While the inspector was looking over my printed Eclipse logs (computer, but not ELD) I asked her I asked if she wanted me to print out the current day or just view it on screen. She'd gone through the first day or two and said don't bother. I asked, "I suppose that's easier with the ELD?"

She laughed and told me I had no idea. Actually worse with ELD and she writes just as many violations on drivers with a net nanny. Drivers that don't know how to operate them. Log off duty wrong. Unplugged. Restarted multiple times, carrier "adjustments," you name it. She said that the pages she looked at were in order and an indication that I knew what I was doing and she wasn't going to find a problem if she studied things closer. Either I was presenting the truth, or a good enough cheater not to make any glaring mistakes. I guess I got the one honest inspector that was interested in safety more than finding reasons to collect money.

there is a paper book. as you so kindly call PAPER.

and there is the laptop, which uses it's own paper to print out the same type of log. it may be electronic but it's still paper. the same type of program can also be used on phones and tablets. and still printed on it's own paper. again, they could bge considered electronic.

the thing they are NOT considered, however, is RECORDING DEVICES.

my type of electronics. doesn't tie into the ecm, relay infor back to office, or tell me how to do my job and what to do with my day.

TWO electronics, one is a nanny, the other is NOT.

Does anyone not realize you can cheat, lie, and falsify electronic logs? Not as easily as paper, but it can still be done.

Dude, you're losing sight of what we're talking about, here. You're concentrating on the difference between a PC-based log and a paper logbook, both which can be manipulated in the same way. For the purpose of most conversations regarding this subject, EOBRs are considered e-logs and PC-based logs are being considered the same as paper logs.
