So is Prime going to pay for the hazmat ,getting finger printed and background check? They may end up losing a lot of drivers and having a hard time hiring drivers.

There's more in ye olde company store than just apparral. Part of the condition to be hired for all company drivers at Prime is that they obtain a hazmat endorsement at their own expense. Either have one or get a job somewhere else, and the OP along with every other company driver at Prime agreed to that by accepting the position. Prime hasn't forced the issue for years, but that's changed... and look! They are actually going to provide something, albeit "Prime Bucks," to compensate them.

CR England just stopped pulling hazmat- for the obvious reason, their seatmeat doesn't generally have a clue and it's killing their CSA scores. So there's a lot of freight out there that is going to one carrier or another now. Time to get that hazmat endorsement or go somewhere else. Oh, and Patti... there's always a long line at the recruiting office door. I don't think this will affect things much at Prime one way or another.

Prime doesn't pull poison, radioactive or anything particularly nasty. It's mostly just making sure the paperwork is right, you really do have load locks back there, and making sure the placards are still on the truck going into OH, IL and AZ. BFD. It get's me off the east coast on a very slow Friday afternoon while everyone else without the endorsement is biotchin' about no freight every time.

There lieing about "more money for you." That's complete rubbish. I've had a Haz Mat endorsement for 12 years and used it about 10 times. Had I not had Haz Mat I would have simply pulled another load. Pulling tankers I've used it once and NEVER used my TWIC card a single time either. It's all a waste of money unless that's all your company hauls.

We go into ports regularly... had to show my TWIC card to get on a Navy installation last week. The escort fees are enough that you're saving money here if you have the TWIC credential. And yeah, I do make more money on hazmat loads than pulling some of the low-paying grocery and meat loads I'm offered at times. It all depends. On the company side they'll get the hazmat bonus plus the regular per-mile rate they get for every mile they are dispatched on loaded or empty.

    Skydivedavec Thanks this.

See how this is a Prime thread. I don't know about anyone else, I always get Hazmat pay as a co driver Prime. Pays for itself within 2-3 loads.

dont tell me you don't benefit from increased revenue to the company. You'd all be making .03/mile less. Need I remind you we company drivers got .01 this year and .02 raise last year across the board IN ADDITION to the regular mileage raise you get every 120k-125k.

Do the math an .03 raise is over 500k dispatched miles in regular raises.

the company bottom line makes a difference.

I was told nothing on the matter of getting a hazmat permit when I came to prime. I was told its optional. never been asked before. but sorry I'm not takin money from my wife and kids, nor am I gonna waste my home time getting something they say I have to get? pfft forget all that noise. Even so THEY want us to have it THEY should pay for it. But no, they want to give some wonderful amazing Prime bucks. ha. haha. Least buy me a drink first...

I've never used my passport and prolly never will. waste of money. I do use the Twic card quiet often and has saved me a lot of hassle at ports. Hazmat though...nah.

But I have been weighing my options for some time on what my plans are going to be after the holidays. Pretty sure its just time to move on to bigger and better things.

Hey if y'all don't want hazmat that's fine, I'll take them loads when I get mine, and I'm pretty sure you're required to have a hazmat book on the truck weather you have the endorsement or not

Prime thread cause if you look at very beginning the starter of the thread mentioned PRIME BUCKS if they get their HAZMAT their forcing them to get for company drivers.
