The OP basically said he was told "no" at first until it was learned that he had already had the truck for a year. Nothing is ever set in stone. I believe Mercer has stopped taking on Quality drivers as a whole. Exceptions can always be made if someone has already shown they can manage their truck. But I don't know, I just drive here. I don't work in Louisville.

One of the first questions they asked me was who I had my truck thru and once it was clear it wasn't thru Quality they were ready to move on with my applicaton.

Right now I'm just on a fact finding mission. It's nice to know about my options. While I do want to get into FB, I won't do it just to do it and risk loosing anything.
While I'm sure there are people still doing well, there are people not doing well. I'm sure even the ones doing well are doing less now than they have been in a while. We all are making less in this market. It's always like this in an election year when there is no incumbent and there is complete uncertainty as to the future. -

its my understanding that Mercer is not putting any more Lease Purchase Quality trucks. I would double check that..... This came from contractor relations.
PS. flatbed is down all over right now. -

I actually applaud Mercer not accepting any more fleece purchase trucks. Good decision!
Mercer is an owner operator company. Owner operators are fully vested in their equipment including their own finances. They are fully responsible for their equipment and their business. Owners have a lot of their own money and credit invested in their business. Some owners pulled a second mortgage and are highly vested in their business. As for me I put over $90,000 of my own money in my business. A lot to loose personally. I am sure many owner operators leveraged cash, loans and credit they they will be personally held accountable for. A lot of personal money and risk on the line in the business.
Lease purchase. Truck is not theirs. Nothing invested compared to the owner operator. Can walk away with no consequences. Many of these drivers get in way over their head and dont have a clue how the trucking business works. Sign a piece of paper to pretend a truck is theirs and they are a big time business owner lol. They go down the rabbit hole into a world where they pretend they are an owner operator. "Sticking feathers in your rear dont make you a chicken" lol. Pretending you own a truck dont make you an owner operator
Heard reports of Lease purchase drivers "rage quitting" leaving the trailer where ever and giving the truck back to quality ( AKA Celedon Trucking)Then walking away to lick their wounds.
There are some lease purchase drivers that remain at Mercer that are trying to make it work and have an understanding of the trucking business.....or are making great efforts to learn. Despite lease purchasing a truck they have a chance. However....this is the minority. The majority of LP drivers fail miserably.....sometimes up and quitting like a company driver and leaving a trailer sitting somewhere. You can take the driver out of the company....but you cant take the company out of the driver.
It goes without saying I am a staunch opponent of lease purchases.. Especially trucking company sponsored Lease Purchases like Quality AKA Celedon.
Bottom line. This is Mercer....not Celedon.
PS Sorry if I seem to brutally honest.....Big John Classic HQ, blairandgretchen, CJndaTruck and 3 others Thank this.
