How much did you make your first year?

My first complete year as a driver, I worked for Keystone Automotive Operations. I ran team from Kansas City to Houston, Texas. One solo run every four weeks Kansas City to Denver. I made 69,893.73. I was home twice a week and weekends except for the 1 run to Denver weekend.

The problem is newbies work cheap. Don't do it.

When you are offered a job, that is a negotiation. They tell you they are going to pay you .28 per mile and you say, Yes sir, can I have another. Is not how to negotiate. That depends where you live and if it's in a good area to get home time often. But usually you have to stay out for a while to make money.

45k is easy to make, I made 60k with Schneider but that was regional and home 2 days out of 5.

 

Pay is subjective. You'll find the gross income varies quite a bit however there are other variables that start to become almost as important. It's not an easy question to answer, what you want in return for your time. Some of the variables I'm talking about are home time, terminal location, slip seating, man/auto trans, lanes and many more. After researching I settled on a mega with a terminal close to home. I'm home most of the time and off weekends. The cpm is lower but plenty of miles, good home time and there are other pay lines that add more money to the settlement. Good luck.

 

In 1994 I earned 45k, home every weekend Nationwide Express of TN.

 

First year did about 55k. Home every night and hauled wastewater. 4 truck fleet.

 

First year I've done about 58000.
Bring home a good 1700-1900 every 2 weeks.
As a newbie my first gig payed .38 a mile.
Second gig payed .40 but I was never home.
Now I average .51-.59 cents a mile.
Don't get in a truck for under 38 cents.
