Most of us have to back in to shippers that have safety racks to prevent falls. They give us about 6 inches either way.
How the heck do guys who cant back up get their cdl?

It's not hard to see why people have a hard time with backing when they're new, despite obtaining a CDL. We go through schooling that could care less about real world driving and instead prioritizes passing a test. Instead of being taught backing as a concept that can be applied to any situation, we're taught how to back in a controlled environment. It's nice for getting a feel for backing but ultimately worthless. It's like remembering the answer to 5+5 is 10 instead of understanding why the answer is 10.
After that, we go to orientation. Same thing, in my experience. Then we get thrown out into chaos. -
I moved to linehaul last month and I've seen a driver at another terminal take 15 minutes to get in a door. One of our bigger terminals with tons of easy straight-line backs. Don't know how the hell he got on here, we don't take people without experience smh...

I back my tanker a lot. Haul def not gas. I rarely dump at a truck stop unless I'm running a load for someone.
I dump into 1000-3000 gallon tanks at mines and trucking companies, you name it I'll do it. Only time I do truck stops is when brenntag wants me to run a load somewhere.
Either way it's not really that funny when people can't back, we all started somewhere. You don't even drive yet so I'm sure you'll have plenty of frustrating times ahead of you.Just passing by and Mortarmaggot Thank this. -
90 degree ally dock a 28ft trailer or smaller before talking about people not knowing how to back

Get over the ego... I simply made a observation about guys who obviously have their cdl but can't do a basic part of their job yet are sent out on the highways...
Everyone no matter how long they have been trucking should see as bad that drivers are sent on the road with out the basic skills needed to do the job.
Maybe it's your truck they back into....Last edited: Aug 11, 2017
