Are there any "official" new physical standards for drivers going into effect soon, or already in effect since 2010? I know as of May 1st, all doctors doing the physicals must now be in an FMCSA registered database, so you cannot simply go to the same old family practice doctor that you been seeing for umpteen years, unless they are registered. In a way this is a good thing, because most of the physicals Ive been given are far too lax... So if your physical expires soon, I would either knock it out now or make an appointment now. Some of the clinics in my area have already given up on doing the physicals.

I am in the boat as Joseph, going on 35, 5'10", and now over 220 lbs. My strategy is to get away from trucking for at least a good year, change my diet and, hit the gym hard, and run myself ragged around the lake in my hometown at least 3 times a week to get everything in check. I am not on any meds...yet...and i hope that day doesnt come. My BP numbers have slowly been creeping up over ghe past 5 years, and I am hoping my lifestyle change will get these numbers back in check before my physical in April. Good luck Joseph!

Joseph, good for you, and great thread. You've stated it well, and I'm in much the same boat. Funny, I don't care much about what folks think of me, but it is a big deal to me to do what I say I'm going to do. So, if you don't mind, I'm going to post my info here as well, to go on record. Currently, I'm 222 and 5'9". Since I have no idea on how to get taller I'm going to work on the weight.

Best of luck to you Joseph and anyone else trying to get healthier.

There is no reason to quit trucking to be healthy. You just have to actively try to be healthy. Stop eating junk and make yourself get exercise. Get a little George Forman grill and cook chicken breast and fish. By the steam fresh vegetables and throw them in the microwave. For when you can't cook come thing keep can/bags of tuna and chicken breast. By fruits and veggies to snack on while your driving. And the exercise is east to do. Sit-ups, push-ups, body weight squats etc. will take you a long way. Even going for a jog. Keep baby wipes in your truck to wipe down with. It might suck sometimes, but it works.

That is a motivating documentary. Problem is cleaning that stupid juicer. That is a miserable task in a full kitchen with a dishwasher- I couldn't imagine it in a truck. I doubt there is a healthier way to injest food if you can do it though. I ended up selling my juicer to a friend and buying a vitamix

Check out this film - 'Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead.'

Then get in touch with Phil Staples. I found him on Twitter - @philup1965 Phil Staples is the Knight Driver that Joe Cross helped. You'll see him in the documentary.

I agree, cleaning a juicer could be hard on the road. I'm not sure how Joe did it when he was driving cross country. If you're concerned, you could do smoothies in a Vitamix instead. No filters to clean. :)

Suggesting that eating vegetarian is NOT best is BS. I did it when I was younger & a friend I know was solid vegetarian besides several others OUT HERE! WE as humans are actually "omnivores" & should be on a MOSTLY veggies, fruit, grain diet with a smaller portion of meat & little to no/none junk food!

As for Adkins,,,, that man made a fortune off of "feeding into" many peoples 'carnivore' cravings & tendencies! (I have 3 yrs - Deans list of several medical courses working towards my Bachelors.) If you "need" to see what I look like to prove "it is possible" to eat well out here - I can arrange it but prefer not to due to being a smaller, well dressed, clean, better looking female then many out here - I get tons of fleas already at every truck stop!

    Good luck Joseph!!

    Don't give up !!

I'm 5'10" - 200 lbs, the BMI says about 170 to be "normal" - tough chart to follow.

Aim to get off them meds! Lots of walking when you can.
