I left J.B. Hunt after 8 weeks of never seeing the house, and running east coast as a MIDWEST REGIONAL DRIVER, with out any notice at all.
Made it to the Cedar Rapids terminal, had my wife meet me, cleaned out the truck, scanned my last paperwork, dropped the keys on the counter, and went home.
When dispatch called me the following Monday I acted like they had the wrong number, and said "I don't drive for J.B. Hunt", and hung up.
Got my last check IN FULL and on time, and they put "Eligible For Rehire" on my DAC.
So my problem was working for them...not quitting them.

I worked there many years ago, back when JBH first ditched the driving schools and introduced a massive "pay raise", for about 9 months or so, and it was hell from the beginning. Orientation was at the NJ terminal instead of Syracuse (which would've been better because it was closer to me at the time), and the terminal manager there was some scrawny chicken-necked ###### who thought he was mr. drill sargeant. I had to provide my own transportation between the hotel and terminal, the bus/taxi trip to get there from the NYC bus station was a nightmare, and don't get me started about the "motel hell" they had new suckers staying in.
And the .37/mile pay rate they had at the time(they decided to go for "experience drivers and traded the cabover for condo freightliners) seemed good, but the mileage sucked. I was lucky to get even 1500 miles a week, and it was a lot of sitting between loads. When asked about layover and detention pay, I would get a rude "no we don't, wtf you think we pay 37 cents for??". Forget about being able to get any holidays off, I was lucky to get Xmas day after fighting them. After 9 months of their ##### I left, and found a much better(now defunct) company out of Iowa.
Years after I had left I kept getting call after call on my answering machine from JB recruiters begging me to come back. The final straw was when I happened to be at home and I was present. They gave me the whole "we're a nice company now" spiel which immediately set my blood boiling.... I loudly explained to them the inhuman atrocities they visited upon me during my time there, and got a lecture on "burning bridges". I told them "sir, when a company like yours pulls the crap on me like yours did, I dont burn that bridge, o blow that ###### thing up!!". Then I was asked "so I guess you don't want us calling anymore?". Let's just say that JB Hunt is still to this day a company I would gladly saw my own head off than return there.QuietStorm, mjd4277, Voodoo Pyg and 3 others Thank this. -
I don't know why I keep defending J.B., I mean it's just a job right?
O yeah, I know why now. It's because I have to listen to Billy Big Rigger and his tough take no #### attitude. You know like the guy right here. He is a valuable resource that J.B. desperately needs to keep their billion dollar company afloat. The manager is scrawny, Motel is sub par, recruiter is ignorant, and my favorite part..... they need to move orientation closer to HIM. Wow, J.B. really missed the mark here.
The sad truth is that if you shadowed this wanna be trucker through these events, I bet he sat in class like a church mouse, didn't say BOO to the Motel clerk and only cried to his wife when it got rough. You guys are a dime a dozen and J.B. knows it. It's the reason they keep calling you. -
I don't either.mjd4277, Voodoo Pyg, ladr and 3 others Thank this.

I can't go a week without those butt pipes calling me. How in the Blue Hell they got my info is beyond me but no amount of abuse or rudeness will deter them. I'd saw my manhood off with a butter knife before I drove one of those ugly, choked down to 62, camera in your face, no milage getting crap traps.

I remember seeing JB Hunt recruiter in truck stops all the time, all kinds of posters, brochures etc sitting on a table, how their company was the greatest thing to trucking, their turnover was the lowest, etc. one got really PO'd at me when I asked if they have such low turnover they needed a whole army of recruiters.
mjd4277 and Voodoo Pyg Thank this. -
These jokers are always blowing up my home phone and email telling me they want to hire me. I don't know which is more depressing, the fact these guys keep trying to contact me,or the fact that I was paid more at Western Express and my truck could run at 65 mph and didn't have cameras in it!lol

A recruiter from one of the top companies told me they don't even pull a DAC report as part of the hiring process. Driving record yes. DAC no.

There once was a driver that didn't have a sack
He always ran with the rest of the pack
Then one day he wanted to split clickity clack
But he stayed put cause he's a skeered of his DAC!drlmi, haz-matguru, Lonesome and 1 other person Thank this. -
Unfortunately most companies still use it.
