Had Petro replace wheel seal on trailer back in spring time. They noticed axle was scarred a bit but not too bad. They said they won't warranty seal job unless I replaced axle. Its not my trailer I just rent it from owner. I sure don't want to spend $1000+ on axle replacement.
Should I replace seal myself. All the tools and parts would cost me fraction of price what it would cost if I went back to Petro
They used Step Voyager seal 373-0143. Is that good quality seal?
Leaking wheel seal.

I avoid Petro like the plague. Just use an independent shop.

You can install a Stemco Voyager without any special tools.
I haven’t had a problem with one failing prematurely when seated properly.
With my own equipment, I would sand/grind down the scar/burr and ensure there is a proper surface to not gouge a seal or bearing.
If it’s not your trailer, I would ask the owner what they want done with it and proceed from there. -
They make a seal saver that you put or drive with spec. tool on the damaged end of axle the seal that comes with repair kit will fit over, this way you can keep from replacing axle tube?
