Not even joking. Get a call at 0715. Hey man, I don't know if Timmy got s hold of you last night... But I need you in at 0730. Don't be late cause we got an important staff meeting to outline our shortage of drivers and how everyone needs to pick up the slackTequilaSunrise, speedyk and TahoeTrucker Thank this.

I work at YRC. P&D. My start time is 09:00. I could start at 08:00 but I don't like the area that time peddles. We only have 5 guys and all have start times. If it's really slow dispatcher will call according to seniority and ask if you want the day off

I work for a private fleet, we are p n d, but not for hire if you will.. we all start at the same time, 5 am. The exceptions are 2 of us that come in early to route the trucks, or if there is time sensitive freight.

"Okay. I'll be out of bed, showered, dressed, and down there in 15 minutes."

If someone tries to tell me that I'll tell them "see you tomorrow."road_runner, Gearjammin' Penguin and speedyk Thank this. -

Normally on Mondays we all come in around 7, but all of the rest of the days we call or text the TM around 7am and he will tell us our leave the yard time and than we normally come in about 15 minutes prior to that.
At the end of the day when you come back our TM puts a list on the wall with your name. If it is already known that your route needs you in at a certain time, it will be on there. If not it just says call at 0700 -
I just started working for Grocery haulers out of Hazleton PA and bid a 9am start time 5 days a week.

Good luck to you. BTW did you think you were going to walk right in and land a choice day meet and turn run making 50+k a year? Do you think the senior drivers that have the choice driving jobs just fell into them? If you want to work LTL for a large carrier like Reddaway, and have banker-type hours driving truck, you gotta pay your dues big time. That means extra board, putting up with odd hours, flaky start times and runs, sitting by the phone, scarce work schedule, and some carriers even have you do dock work at times...just ask those senior drivers about it. They have all been through it when they were new and stuck it out for however long it took, then gradually worked their way up to something more solid, eventually getting a nearly ideal run....Just a little pep talk before you go hopping to another job. Good luck!Last edited: Sep 19, 2016

I never expected anything or any job to be perfect but I do expect to be put to work instead of 8 different paid power trucks running our freight. I know how ltl works I also know how extra board works. I don't want banker hours I have always worked nights, I enjoy nights over days. I have done plenty of dock work and I really wouldn't mind babysitting my phone if I knew that there was a light at the end of the tunnel. Being governed at 62mph, lowest paid and barely working is just not going to keep many drivers period.
Reddaway is hiring everywhere because we are the lowest paid and they keep extra guys sitting when they could cancel some of the paid power. I'm not b******* for no reason. Every guy that works in my barn is pissed at this company. I know because we all (All line drivers) had a meeting with a couple of big wigs today. We lost 1 guy to Saia and another to old dominion on Friday. They can't even get anyone to work here.
I'd be happy if I worked a little more at least 3-4 runs a week but seriously you don't know everything about how things are being run or everyone's individual situation. I'm only 30 I need to look at long term for my family.Last edited: Sep 19, 2016

Guys quitting huh? That could mean more secure work for you...I wasn't criticizing you or your decision to leave, but consider anywhere else you move to in LTL is going to be similar starting out. The difference is, you will be starting from square one again with your seniority...
BTW you're right about my not knowing your situation or your workplace circumstances, I was just trying to help you consider some things before making a choice. From one fellow driver to another, I sincerely wish you the best, brother.TahoeTrucker Thanks this.
