Who would like a truck that keeps giving them hassles? I personally like KWs better.

Honestly, if I had to choose between a 579 Pete and a T680 KW, the 680 wins, hands down. More open cabin, more storage, the top bunk can be down for storage w/o cracking your skull...the only 579 I would drive OTR in again would be that Ultra-loft model @Winnyf1 posted about a while back...in my experience, KW, hands down, is the better PACCAR truck.

It’s bigger, but better? One of the challenges at Magnum is the shop is having a hard time keeping up with the attempt to grow, before I left I know of more than one argument between mechanics.

If you are close to a dealer (a good one) at home try and get Paul to approve the truck for warranty and service on hometime, and push the heck out of them to fix everything when you do have it in for service.

The second shift team in Fargo are top notch and getting them to work on your truck goes a long way...I miss those dudes.

Currently I am driving a new Peterbilt 567 Herritage with a Cummins X-15, it’s early days but so far so good. One of our fellow recently departed Magnum drivers is in a brand new T680 and he loves the Condo...

KW’s are more luxurious than Pete’s but the powertrain’s are the same...can’t say I liked the direction Magnum was going on the new trucks, locking drivers out of any gears is not a sign of trust which is one of the reasons I decided to move on to skateboarding. Good luck War Wagon.

The KWs might habe the same issues but my reason for liking them is i like the looks of them more and I like the setup inside better. Swivel seat/desk and pretty much every other small detail, but thats just me.

If you guys were gonna buy your own used money--maker today, what would you choose?

    Any specific year model?

Depends on what your hauling. For doing this, Pete 387 condo with a pre-emissions cat and a 13 speed. Say 2000 to 2006 for year. About 15 to 20k in price for a good one then dump 10k into it.

Could go glider kit but you said money maker. Hard to make money with truck payments. Buy old, pay cash, then drive it into the ground.

Lots of room for you and the wife. We used to add all kinds of custom shelving on the inside for more storage when Magnum was running 387s. Stay out forever. Get your own upper bunk, don't buy an old trainer.

I’d go for a decent Freightliner Cascadia, preferably a glider if you are not doing CA. This assumes your tugging a reefer, series 60 engines are easy to find parts for and you can do a lot inside the Freight Shaker to make it nice...

    I love Pete’s, they’re just very expensive.

Those guys are going to be in every weigh station in six months from now. Wouldn't want to be the only one running paper.
