Wonder why the base plate for 48 states is 2100 at Mercer and only 1650 at Landstar? both Illinois plates.
Maybe because Landstar is bigger and buys more tags.

Maybe because of the additional cost for the trailer?

Most of the Mercer flatbed trailers are plated out of TN. Coming from a forced Dispatch operation you probably need to get up to speed on where the freight and lanes are that will fit you best. It will be entirely your decision and all on you. The coordinators will tell you about some freight, and you will see some on the board......but in the end it's up to you to make the decision.

PS trailer insurance is 80 per month. Bobtail is 20.00 per month....HOWEVER.......their Bobtail only covers you while you are under dispatch and is liability only !! You still should carry additional insurance for the truck for when You are not under dispatch....and to cover damage and clean up if necessary.

Not completely accurate. The bobtail covers you while not under dispatch. While under dispatch you are by their insurance. Thay applies to liability. Physical damage is a separate insurance you can get through mercer, or on your own. Good luck finding it cheaper on your own. That 80 for the trailer is the trailer physical damage.

Mercer said the 20 per month you pay them will not cover you if you are driving around not under dispatch / personal use.

If you are bobtailing around home and off......it's on you. You can show em the Mercer insurance all you want.

You misunderstood someone. That is exactly what bobtail insurance is for.
