It might be the other way around.... California produces something like 90% of the fruit, veggies, and nuts we consume. And they are the world's 5th largest economy.

I can’t understand why anyone that doesn’t live in California would do any business there.

    dwells40 and JonJon78 Thank this.

Because their economy is huge...they produce and consume a lot, lots of money changing hands.

They consume a ton more than they produce. Evidence of this is shipping rates. They only time they have decent east bound rates is during their produce season. The rest of the year and for every other segment of shipping that isn't refrigerated, it's garbage.

Rickp, JonJon78 and dwells40 Thank this.

Eastbound rates do not determine their production nor consumption rates. Rates north to OR and WA or East to NV, AZ, and UT are always better outbound than inbound.
I worked the western 11, actually western 7 for a year in 2016, always cheaper going into Cali, but this may have been cause I was just regional.
Maybe California consumes more of what they produce? I don't know, I don't run Cali anymore....
You may or not be right, not the point...

    Looks really good.

Not a more true statement anywhere. No one has ever been a success or accomplished anything of great value with a negative mindset. Not pointing fingers at anyone, just stating a proven fact.

Mercer is being swallowed up by Landstar and will end up being part of their dry van division. One of LS's owners is already a partner in Mercer and has been for a very long time.
