My Tenure is Over

That is the best line ever lol. I got into a pissing match with another guy at work years ago and my boss came out and goes "calm down girls, you're both pretty". There isn't much else you can do other then calm down when someone says that lol.

 

I think bettendorf trucking only require 6 months experience. They pay really good though. I have a friend that has been working for them for 2 years at the Medford Oregon location and he loves it. There are also always companies hiring that only run the 5. I'm at one of them and I get home every weekend and through home at least twice a week if that interests you just look on craigslist.

As someone who's been in the office side of trucking, I'll say this about hard braking events: Everyone will have one once in a while. They're rare for good drivers, and a regular occurrence for the others. And having driven with most of the same guys, I could have told you beforehand which were more likely to have hard brakes.

And while I haven't had the unfortunate experience of driving a truck with all the nannies, I did buy @FloTheWaitress a Subie with their adaptive cruise. And the first thing I noticed is that as good as the system works, it's always reacting a touch later than when I would, as I was always overriding it until I forced myself to let it react. I doubt the truck systems are any better.

Something that everyone should realize about any of the Megas, is that they are a bureaucracy. If you go in with the expectation that interacting with your carrier will be about like dealing with the DMV, you'll not be as disappointed. And when you're dealing with bureaucracies, you have to remember how bureaucrats think. You either fit in the 'box' or you don't. There is no flexibility in the eyes of a bureaucrat, you adhere to the rigid 'box' of their standards, or you are a hazard. It's no different than the DOT. There's thousands of drivers who've run safely for decades while only loosely following the HOS. Yet in the eyes of the DOT, the newbie at the mega with no HOS violations is considered safer than those experienced guys. And we're not talking about the run-till-you-drop idiots. It's guys who know when to stop and when they can go. That might mean 15 hours one day, and 8 the next. But that's outside the box and therefore unsafe to the bureaucrat. Remember that when dealing with your mega.

You may have those reversed. It's most certainly above meteorologist. Zero repercussions for being wrong in that job. Make the wrong call in a truck and you lose your job, people die and potentially you go to jail.

Somethings will come out of the blue, but a lot of times you can anticipate the stupidity.

• Is the driver of the car on the ramp looking or are they syaring straight ahead?
• Is the guy passing you reaching into the backseat? Chances are he is going to swerve.
• Do you see the guy in the far left lane start making aggressive lane changes to the right? Yeah, he is going to cut you off.

Looking further ahead, reading all road signs and keeping your head on a swivel will help a driver anticpate what WILL happen so he can be proactive, not reactive.
