Hi, I just graduated from roadmasters and waited 2 weeks for training at Werner. Now Werner is unsure about my previous traffic citations and have left me hanging. All 3 were bumper taps with no damage at stop lights that turned green and in my work van delivering dry cleaning. No citations given but I had to call and report them because I drove a company van. Over 13 yrs driving and only 3 bumper taps shouldn’t be a big deal but now I’m stressing out. I need to get to work. They prequalified me and already reviewed the “ accidents and told me previously that they weren’t a problem and I was approved. Why now are they bringing it up and acting like it’s a game changer?

Why so many?
Watching the light, not the car in front? -
Yes, exactly that. But I’ve become a better, more patient driver since and I had hoped they would see that from my proficiency now being really good and too recommended from my trainers at school.

Just being honest, anything “rear end related” is kind of termed the kiss of death in this industry. Worst day of your life in a big rig is when you look up and then that moment you realize you aren’t going to stop in time. So the fact that you have three of them even though you say there wasn’t any damage, that’s gonna be a hard pill to swallow. Werner is considered a starter company and if they won’t take you, you may have to wait until those fall off.
I knew a guy who had been driving privately for 30+ years without a ticket or an accident. He got into a fender bender that was a rear end collision his fault while he was going through trucking school. He was in his mid-40s never had any traffic incidents of any kind until that… That killed it for him. He couldn’t get a job anywhere. It’s because it’s a rear end type thing. I could be wrong though maybe you’ll find something. -
Prequalified means the recruiter got his bonus, now safety is involved and they're obviously not happy.
Post location and start applying elsewhere.
@ChinatownLilRedRidingHood and Chinatown Thank this. -
You should prepare to be cut loose by Werner - Line up other employment. The Guru for jobs has already been notified, so be ready for his response. Make sure you get the names of every person you talk to at Werner. They are going to try and recoup the cost of your training.

If they're older than 3 or5 yrs don't even mention them. Pull your driving record to see what's on it
LilRedRidingHood and Chinatown Thank this. -
Are those bumper taps on your DMV driving record? If not, I wouldn't list them.
Don't worry though, if Werner fires you, plenty of other companies will hire you.
Where is your location; state & nearest town/city?LilRedRidingHood and slim shady Thank this. -
Consensus on who are considered the mega carrier training companies? | Page 4 | TruckersReport.com Trucking Forum | #1 CDL Truck Driver Message Board (thetruckersreport.com)
According to the latest info in the above thread (as of the time of this post)....Werner has stopped taking beginner drivers.
Thus--you might prepare to start looking for work elsewhere, anyway....regardless of your situation above.
Whereever you go, and no matter who you drive for--as a beginning CDL driver, rule #1 is: DON'T HIT A-N-Y-THING!!!!
