Some want you to slide your tandems and drop while they unload you, other that some slaughter houses it is rare.

I’m at Holland Ent. (Fargo) and we do very little drop and hook. You will occasionally swap with another so somebody can get home on time.

Yeah, never heard of drop and hook reefer. 99% of the time, you load it, you deliver it. Might not be so bad with a load of toilet paper in a van, but I could just see a reefer being sucked dry in a drop yard somewhere.

If you’re interested in a carrier, check them out on saferweb. It will tell you their truck and trailer count. If they’re running a trailer to truck ratio less than 1.5 you’ll see a greater percentage of live unload. I don’t see it as a bad thing unless they’re greater than 500 trucks where you start running into spotty maintenance. I worked as a company driver for Knight Refrigerated and with that many trailers and drivers you run into a lot of issues, not so much with a medium sized carrier.

No. Prime, Schaffer, TransAm, Hirschbach, May, and many other small, large, and medium carriers do LOTS of d/h. Go to any meat plant and note all the different carriers there with drop trailers.

Then it is so much of a crap shoot on them drop and hooks at the meat plants, trailers come out all scratched up, sealed and you do not know if it is secured properly. Also it is hard to catch who tore that chute off and put them holes in the walls.

    Farmerbob1 Thanks this.

I agree. That's one the reasons I left the last place I worked prior. I will never work at a carrier again that does a lot of d/h.
