It isn't as fun as it sounds. They don't care that your backing up, they will drive right up behind your trailer and stop right in the way.
-
I've seen them hauled on a flatbed with a mesh screen/tarp over the top (kinda like what sand dumps use.) Keeps the onions in, the fumes out.
The company I use to work for hauled them in an unvented van all the way to DFW from all over the NW. The only special care we had to take was provide a propane heater to keep them warm during the winter when we were on a 10. -
Oh I'm well versed on the Bronx market bein an ex meat hauler lol

I would squeeze a few in each bag on multiple pallets to make sure they are not starting to go rotten. That seemed to be a common thing, mix in some bad stuff and ship it off...
One load I just checked a dozen or so and they seemed to be ok. Got the the receiver and they dumped out a bag and 1/3 of it was bad. The guy was like "where did you pick this up from, a dumpster?"

Oh well if they don't pay I don't haul and will ltl it outa here .
-
I don't think they check tighten the straps as the load settles.
-
Well if it comes to pass I'll put my side kit up .

I ran across a YouTube video of a Prime flatbed loading onions and how to secure it.
intrepidor and SidewaysBentHalo Thank this. -
Seen it myself. Along with all the junky trucks hauling it. Load always looking like it is secured poorly. Didnt surprise me considering the condition of equipment.
