Maybe it was fixed already. Usually when the tractor is deadlined, you can't enter the tractor # in the handheld. You'll get a message that says "Tractor R23720 is in the shop status".

    Mike2633 Thanks this.

Looks like I’ll try to go tractor shopping for a Volvo next time I’m there.

Right. That’s why nobody who actually knows what it’s like in the real world gets promoted to management positions. That’s only reserved for those who come in from the outside and swear to spew the company propaganda at all times.

Hopefully you can find Volvo with d13 and ishift. Those trucks pull nicely up the hill and ishift is really good at shifting gears.

@classicst are you on extraboard or you have your own run? Been thinking about switching to linehaul. However the fact that I would have to be on nights turns me off a little

That's what I miss about the military. People would work their way from the bottom up until they where the ones making the important decisions.

In the civilian sector it's like "oh hey, you have a brand new college degree and zero operational experience? Well allow me to show you to your desk so you can start deciding who to hire and fire"

I always love people in management that forget what it's like to do there employee's job. It's not exclusive to any industry; I liked my old terminal manager, but they way he expected last minute picks up to be picked up was insane...

It's like dude you drove for 25 years you know I can't cross town in 15mins. Just tell the customer they're gonna have to wait, or I can't get it. I think he was just afraid to tell customers "My driver's across town; I know you close at 5, but if you'd like it picked up today you'll have to give him 15-30mins".

Last year mine got set out for a routine pm ended up being gone a month to the other side of the state. Came back trashed. They wonder why we dont write things up unless it's in bad shape.

This is PRECISELY why I like working for a small company. The shop is the next town over, and we don't have multiple barns to lose things at. When my truck is gone to the shop I can check on it and get it back when its done.
I don't have to worry about some other swinging D messing it up for me.

They really should be cutting it off at 2 hours before closing. Calling for a pickup a half hour before you close is ridiculous, not to mention all the times when it’s actually a broker responsible for that.
