Not too long ago an Alabama driver in the same situation posted he got his cdl on his own, then paid cash for a used truck and can't understand why he can't get insurance and no one will hire him as an owner-operator.
Get a company driver job first and get some experience in all weather/all terrain driving, ie. coast to coast. Do this for 24 months and and you'll have more job offers than you can imagine.

i do not see anyone hiring you too soon. -
Best advice, hire a good lawyer. It won't get dismissed, but you might be able to bargain it down to 14 or so. Then it wouldn't be recless, just a speeding ticket, which is bad enough, but most companies will allow 2 or 3, as long as it's not 15 over, and in your case, 20. That's about the best you can do with that.

I am not trying to be negative towards you but you are going to have a tough row to hoe. You are young and this is a major offense. Hiring a truck driver with a recent reckless driving violation would kind of be like a bank hiring a branch manager who just got got busted for embezzlement. I know speeding is not like stealing but my point is it is directly related to the job you perform. Insurance for a new under 25 driver and a ciolation like this is going to be outrageous. I wouldn't be surprised if it cost you near $2,000 per month as an owner op.

I've gotten one ticket my entire life going 16 over. I called the courthouse the next day to figure out my options, I could pay the ticket like normal and it'd go on my record, or I could pay like $300-350 (can't remember the actual number) to have it dismissed completely.
Felt a lot like a bribe but who am I to tell a courthouse what's legal or not.roadmap65 Thanks this. -
For tickets with trucking companies you got one of the worse to get. Most trucking companies look at this as you being irresponsible and just will not take a chance. I believe that the best shot you have is getting a lawyer like suggested before. You do that while you still have you class D license because it's much easier to change that then a CDL.

First question, did you pay the ticket yet?

Believe me any trucking company you apply for a job is going to check out that ticket. That is if they even consider the job application.
