I’m at a point where I’m trying to decide rather to go into reefer, or stay flatbed. I’m currently hauling a flatbed and I have a little experience with reefer, but long term I’m not sure. I do not want to become an owner any time soon, I typically like to stay out 5-8 weeks at a time OTR, I love to drive the full 10 and then shut down, don’t like to horse around at truck stops but I like my sleep, cooking and exercise. I currently spend around 13-15 hours at a time in the sleeper. I’m not sure if reefer drivers can get away with that. I currently haul flatbed and enjoy it with the possibility of heavy haul. I don’t mind load securing but it does get annoying at times when I’m ready to roll. I don’t enjoy running recaps all that much unless the load can be delivered early by using them. I prefer to take a reset here and there to do laundry and such but not sure if reefer will leave room for such. I do love night driving and the solitude of the road for miles
Reefer or flatbed career?

The problem with doing Reefer is you Get So Lazy.
You tend to just sit around a bunch and watch mindless TV.
Don’t get me wrong, Getting Tanked day after day can get old too.
And than you just hit a wall and dream of nothing more than just getting back into Reefer
Only after rehab of course though
My name is Tommymonza and I have a Tanking Problem.Chinatown Thanks this. -
Hours of service are the same with reefers or flatbed. Reefers will work for you and many reefer outfits have fancy trucks set up for driver comfort. Take a look at MC Van Kampen; trucks run 75 mph.

Stay with flatbed. I hauled a LOT of reefer, thank goodness, by the hour, and I can say, without question, some of my biggest hassles in trucking involved reefer. It's like you were doing them a big favor by delivering what THEY ordered, "back it along the fence, we'll come and get you when we need the stuff", and there you sit, after driving the wheels off to get there, making less and less as the time goes by, and your reefer using $4.00/gal fuel. Flatbed is a much different game, and my experience, is they are waiting for YOU. Reefer can be ok, but ONLY by the hour pay and you can watch the guys paid % or by the load, get madder and madder. Heck, I'd pull a van or dump trailer before reefer again.. Good luck.

Here's two more you can look at:
Holland Enterprises Inc.
Freymiller
Both do long runs with an average of over 1000 miles per load.asphaltreptile311 Thanks this. -

Yes, you will run thru Little Rock quite often. Not a lot of deliveries tho, just passing thru.
