You can do what my company did. :)

All drivers had to take a turn saying their name and then say who it is at home they drive safe for (wife, kids, etc). What ended up happening was a lot of drivers opening up personally with way too much personal information.. awkward.

See, at our yard I would not be surprised if there was more than one driver who would answer "Both families" :)

If you don't know what you should talk about, start with asking the drivers what they need from the company to improve their safety ratings.

How to make the annual safety meeting Not suck...an incredible feat
He’s right. If you do a meeting and have audience participation, the people that you hear from will be the biggest idiots on the fleet. He will sit at the front of the class and bloviate about things that only concern his dumb arse. And you will be taking notes. And drivers like @Toomanybikes will roll their eyes because you are giving an idiot what he craves most, an AUDIENCE.

I preach safety every single day. To drivers, to individuals looking for self defense, to gun owners. Here’s an example:

Safest course of action is to, if at all possible, avoid bad situations altogether. People walk like they drive. When does the woman in the video realize that the man is trouble? Why does she continue walking ahead and not leave herself an out? Probably, because she did not know what to do.

We did a thread awhile back, using videos to identify hazards BEFOREHAND, so as to avoid them. Got really good feedback from the members. Yes, I know it is politically incorrect to call people Stupid, but if a person sees a hazard and chooses not to avoid it, what else would you call them?
The Adventures of Dummy, Dingleberry and Stupid (the Darwins)

Anyways, ask your driver to tell you when they see a hazard and what should they do to avoid it. The sooner you see hazardous conditions, the easier it is to avoid them.

Look at how unsafe this guy is talking on the phone while I sit here right beside him whining about it taking a video. Guess which one I'd say needs a ticket for being a safety liability

I'm guessing the guy holding the phone up their ear in a commercial vehicle illegally, which is in the regs.

Nothing in the regs about wearing a handsfree bodycamera and filming while driving.

I never attend them however I do know the Tim Hortons coffee and donuts are always used as bait at my company.
Make a list of recent incidents and cover those. Hold the floor, don't let ratchet jaw drivers waste time with their "war stories"
You are in charge but also welcome audience participation.

I am welcoming all information so I do not take any offense to the snoozefest. I feel that way too. It is the annual safety meeting where we have them sign their forms for MVR's and whatnot so regardless, I HAVE to do it. In the past they were 2 hour meetings with our 3rd party auditor and the last thing I want to do is follow in his footsteps. We don't do anything other than annual safety meetings and I was just thrown into it. I've worked hard to build a good relationship with the drivers so the LAST thing I want to do is lose the respect. I come to y'all first because I know I'm going to get the cold hard truth and I work with the feedback.

On a random note DB4D, have you ever had Death Wish coffee? I have some coffeeholic friends who swear by it. Lol.
