    I have a detroit 60 series 450 horsepower, with a converted 13 speed in a 2003 Columbia with no side skirts and exhaust behind the doors. @67mph I'm at 1400rpm. @70mph 1475rpm. I average 6.7mpg flatland, 5.5mpg mountains @70mph. Flatbed with 1.9mill miles.

I personally feel my truck is too long legged. Truck really pulls hills at 1200rpm.

With those specs you need to drive it in direct and at 60 you’d be around 1450. The older motors run well at 1450-1550. You’d then have top gear overdrive if you’re empty or running from the cops.

If a tree falls in the woods, and no-one is around to hear it, does it still make a sound?

Wrong that truck will run triple digit if you un govern it so it revs to 2100rpm. 3.55 with a 10 OD Wil go 96mph with 22.5 tires.

Keep any 60 series above 1400 when hard pulling. Just use lower gear and keep it under near 1400 when power is not needed.

Nothing for a full sized trailer. There are some very quiet units for smaller straight trucks.

You pretty much have to have an engine of fair size on a reefer trailer that you expect to keep at produce temperatures or less, in summer temperatures. That's a lot of space to cool, and a large temperature differential.

Straight truck reefer units are sometimes compressors only, powered by the engine of the truck, since the truck is not articulated. That compressor will still make *some* noise, but not as much as a model with an engine.
