Why would a company tell a driver to take a certain route if they don't know if it's a legal truck route? Isn't that the whole point in telling a driver which route to take?

 

That is a a disclaimer to protect them...you know lawsuits etc...most exp.drivers don't follow it to a tee everytime anyways...

 

Could be they have old maps... License fee is a high cost.. so why update yearly? It is only a company with x amount of trucks. Restrictions change all the time.

 

My only experience is the the Rand McNally. But if your company lays out a specific route, with the RM you could program it with Multiple Stops option trick and force it to route the way your company wants you to go.

For instance, my old RM was trying to route me up over I80 out of Kansas City area to Reno NV, my company wanted me down on the I40 so I used the Multi stop option and set first stop for Kingman AZ then on up to Reno, the miles were actually a few miles shorter plus avoided a bunch of weather.

 

I used my Garmin truck gps and saved it as I drove.

 

You can also use RM Tripmaker to save a trip (Via Points), then "Push" it to your TND Via the Dock.

I compare my Rand McNally & road atlas if I'm going somewhere I haven't picked up or delivered to most of the time there pretty close then I use google maps to see what the place looks like and what side of the road it's on so I know how to get in there

 

I just upgraded the other day from the TND500 to the TND 525 so what you just typed out I have no idea these tools were available. It is like I just came out of the wilderness after 5 years lol

 

Hint - if looking at GoogleMaps,,, when you find the entrance or where you need to enter, do a right click on GoogleMaps/What's Here - this will give you a Lat/Long that you can enter into the TND under Chose Destination. Sometimes they use the Postal way of determining address numbers. They find the Start Lat/Long of the street and the end (Lat/Long) then divide it evenly that is why sometimes house/business numbers do not match up or jump numbers to the actually building.
