That is not a dumb question by any means it's a very good question to ask and that means you're trying to be responsible. I respect it one hundred percent. Now usually it's between 5 and 15 miles per hour. I always go real slow usually between 5 and 10 miles an hour sometimes they have a speed clocker and it'll tell you to slow down if you're going too fast kind of like the ones you see on the highway or at tolls. But my rule of thumb is that if I missed the speed sign or I didn't see one I go between 5 and 10 miles an hour.

Usually there is a speed sign prior to the pre-weigh. That is the speed you hit. Roanoke for example, 30. You hit it at 30. Not 31 not 29 not 26 not 35 etc. 3-0.

That is just a example. It may have been changed since I went through last. If it has a platform, you are most certainly going to have to stop before getting on.

If you blow your speeds you WILL get a red light and be contrite and sorry like a child caught being bad. Explain the speed problem. You will get a talking to you wont forget any time soon at those scales again.

Everyone goes through this period. Luisiana and MIssissippi has my name though, I come off the Interstate at 70 near Vicksburg find out they want 15 prior to the platform which is already fixing to be thumped... they held me a hour. And another half just to be sure I got the message. =) That was back in about 1992 or so I never forgot.
