Well physical is good for a year. Plan to work Monday.

 

On tours with old steam locomotives, they are accompanied by several modern diesels. This is account of modern railways require provisions for computerized switching and stopping capabilities lacking in old iron. In addition the diesels add to the electricity for use in the cars and have more compressed air on hand reserve for stopping. I had read somewhere that they also at times use the diesels to "tow" the big steam sets along on lengthy runs conserving the boiler, fire box and fuel for the shows. It takes a long time to get the thing fired up and cooled down as well. Diesels are also available for a tow if the old arn breaks down, which it did regularly.

 

Stopped for a clean hot shower which I really need after sweating all day yesterday. I will probably sleep better tonight too.

 

This makes a lot of sense. I have noted the times I have seen it running from Cheyenne out west, a few diesels are close by. Usually pulling a few crew cars.
