The "Old Iron" Guys Will Welcome any kind of Detailed Level Inspection,Anywhere.......Those are the Guys that Know their Trucks,And Keep them in premium condition, Only thing that we ask is during an inspection is..We are to Watch your every Move,(We wont be sitting in the cab)

Next, Train engineers and Pilots are paid HOURLY-or salary........So,It don't matter How they Log or Time in/out......BIG DIFFERENCE.

You start paying these OTR Drivers hourly, An ELD won't make a difference- Drivers will gladly slow down and become safer individuals, At Least a lot safer.

Are you listening to yourself? If a carrier was to pay hourly they would effectively NEED to be on an eLogs system to assure accurate and honest pay. So we're still dealing with the same parking issues and many more "slow trucks". Hourly or mileage, HOS rules still apply.

But if more truck stops are more full, more often, then this only proves many were right when they claimed that log falsification was more chronic and egregious and widespread then some would try to have you believe. .

Maybe the way drivers are paid will change. I'm getting a salary or guarantee minimum pay every week. If the miles are low. I don't care I'm getting paid no matter what happens. If they have more miles, I get paid more money. I'm guaranteed 2,500 miles. If I drive 2,700 miles, I get paid for 2,700 miles.

Correct. On paper a guy can park at 7 P.M. a couple of hours from his destination, get up and take off before his reset, get to where he was going before the massive traffic jam sets in, adjust his clock to show himself there the night before and start with a fresh 11/14.

Option now for many is to park at 7 P.M., show 8 hrs in split berth, take off at 3 A.M. (if he has balance of drive time left from his previous shift) arrive at destination before traffic jam, hope there's a place to park it on the street for a cpl of hrs without getting a ticket.

Get the balance of the 2 hrs off-duty for split berth in and gain back some hours to run after unload.

Hope that the next pick up isn't a cpl of hours away in heavy traffic with a 1300 pick and then get stuck loading until 1700 when he'll have to go right back out into the massive traffic jam again with only a few hrs left to drive on his drive time.

I usually end up in the Inland Empire area of L.A. every week with my southbound load. I stopped booking outbound loads that require me to pick up in the Long Beach/Carson areas because it is such a traffic nightmare getting over most of the time from Fontana/Ontario.

Not to mention, if you don't get reloaded over there by 1430 and are rolling on the 405 NB, you're screwed. I've had it take me 2.5 hrs or more to get back to the I-5 from there. So, I just don't go there anymore, which is one nice thing about being an owner operator who books his own loads ;-)

ELD purpose is to ensure the truck is fully stopped and rested for 10 solid minimum hours and that the truck is only driven 11 hours. ELD cannot confirm the drivers time or rest at all, only the ECM of the power unit.

It's going to fix the problem of drivers being too clean and force them to stop an hour away from home to prevent them from bathing and sleeping in their own bed at night so they can learn what it's like to be a real truck driver.

    This^

It's about making sure the truck is rested. lol

Has nothing to do with the driver because they have no way of knowing if the driver is rested.
