Zerks are cheap and easy to change. 5 minutes each taking your time.
    I prefer to change them.
I would rather remove the problem inside the fitting than push it inside, where it may cause future problems.

You can replace them. Ive got box of spare fittings and a tool to clean them. Basically its a hydraulic plunger you fill with penetrating oil and then hammer it down on the grease fitting. It will push out old grease. I bought one off of ebay

    jamespmack and HalpinUout Thank this.

You just unscrew the old zerk and screw on the new one, right tighty lefty loosey. I could make a video for you.

I've had next to zero success with those plunger tools. Just my experience anyways.

Spray some PB Blaster in the hole after you clean it out..it will help loosen the dry grease

Get the dirt out of the area...remove the zerk, & use a pick to probe and remove the old grease below the fitting.

I remember Dad buying an old TV appliance delivery, an original econoline, engine between the seats, clutch pedal came up out of the floor and the pivot point was in the wheel well.

All the delivery guys said it needed a clutch so we got it cheap.

Had to pull the assembly apart to clean out all the crud from little grease & wheel well dirt.. Reassembled with a new zerk and we sold the truck 10 year later with the same clutch!
